Sweety Almeida is a Puerto Rican American born and raised in Newark, New Jersey who is known for her smile and good
sense of humor. Both her parents were born in Puerto Rico and moved to the United States in 1958. She attended Vailsburg
High School where she studied acting and was a member of the Drama Club. In 1996, she started taking Salsa lessons with Javier
Almeida who would later become her Husband. It was Javier who introduced Sweety to Eddie and Maria Torres. Sweety continued
to advance her dance technique by taking lessons in NYC with the Torres’. In between her salsa lessons Sweety has also
studied Tap, Belly and Break Dancing. Since then, she has performed with the Pzazz Dance Company and with her own troop
- the Salsa Beat Dance Company. She has also performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Salsa on the Hudson Congress,
in NJ & NY nightclubs, schools, and at family events. Sweety is the founder and Director of "Salsa Beat LLC."

Javier Almeida is a Ecuadorian American who immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1973.
He grew up in New York State and attended Hempstead High School. Javier’s entrance into the world of Salsa began when
he was looking for something to do in his spare time. Thinking Salsa might be fun, he decided to take a lesson with the local
instructor in the New Jersey area and was hooked. He later heard of Eddie Torres the "Mambo King" in
NYC and decided to take lessons with Eddie and Maria. Inspired by Eddie and his method of teaching, Javier started teaching
at Foxes nightclub in New Jersey. It was here that he met Sweety his Wife. Javier and Sweety continued learning from Eddie
and at the same time developed their skills as Instructors. Javier has been teaching for 14yrs and is known as one
of the best instructors in the area. Javier has performed with the Pzazz Dance Company, the Salsa Beat Dance Companyand
has performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Salsa on the Hudson Congress, at NY & NJ nightclubs, schools,
and family events.
